Major Step Towards Regional Connectivity: Direct Flights Launched Between Beijing and Delhi

New Delhi, April 27: A new chapter in China-India relations was written on April 21 when Air China, the leading airline of China, launched direct flight services between Beijing and Delhi.

Prior to this, on March 30, Indian airline Indigo initiated direct flights between Kolkata and Shanghai, providing daily services for travelers in both directions. The new Beijing-Delhi route is seen as an extension of the Shanghai-Delhi flight that was resumed in November 2025.

The launch of this direct air service is considered a significant step towards enhancing the business, cultural, educational, and economic ties between the two nations. It is expected that this vital air link will facilitate travel for tourists, students, and business professionals from both countries, thereby strengthening interpersonal relationships.

Yu Jing, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in India, announced the resumption of this direct flight service, which was received positively in New Delhi. Her statement that this flight resumption marks a “strong and confident beginning” underscores the importance of this connectivity. Currently, the Beijing-Delhi flights will operate three days a week—on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—utilizing large aircraft such as the Airbus A330-200/300.

Additionally, on April 18, China Eastern Airlines resumed direct flights between Kunming in China’s southwestern Yunnan province and Kolkata, a major city in eastern India. The increasing number of flights clearly indicates that the economic, social, cultural, and educational relationships between the citizens of both countries are improving. As neighboring countries with a long-standing cultural connection, these flights represent a significant step towards rebuilding trust and relationships.

The resumption of these flights will not only allow businesses to engage more effectively but will also enhance educational exchanges between students of both nations. Students will have the opportunity to travel to each other’s countries for their preferred studies, which will further boost tourism as well.
