Major LPG Cylinder Hoarding Operation Uncovered in Mundka

New Delhi, March 16: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has uncovered a significant hoarding and black marketing operation involving illegal LPG cylinders in the Mundka area of Outer Delhi.

Authorities seized a total of 610 filled and empty commercial LPG cylinders from a warehouse, which were being stored in blatant violation of government regulations and safety standards.

The police received a tip-off regarding the illegal storage of cylinders at ‘Guruji Indane Gas Service,’ located at khasra number 111/22 and plot number 9 in Mundka. Acting on this information, the Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Cell (AEKC) conducted a raid led by Inspector Amit Solanki.

The team included Sub-Inspectors Rajbir and Parveen, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Ravinder Kumar, Rajiv, and Umesh, along with Head Constables Amit, Mohit, Nitin, Ravinder, and Deepak Kumar. The operation was supervised by ACP Pankaj Arora and Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

During the raid, commercial cylinders from Indane, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas were found inside the warehouse. Investigations revealed that the warehouse was licensed only to distribute Indane cylinders. However, cylinders from Bharat Gas and HP Gas were also stored illegally. The seizure included 423 Indane cylinders (133 filled and 290 empty), 92 Bharat Gas cylinders (17 filled and 75 empty), and 95 HP Gas cylinders (47 filled, 27 empty, and 21 small empty). In total, 610 cylinders and 26 lots of Indane were recovered.

Upon checking with Indian Oil Corporation, it was discovered that no Indane cylinders should have been present in the warehouse as of March 10, 2025. The presence of 133 filled cylinders indicates significant discrepancies and irregularities in stock management. Police suspect that such hoarding typically occurs during market shortages, allowing for the cylinders to be sold at inflated prices, adversely affecting the public and small businesses. Additionally, the improper storage of such a large number of flammable cylinders poses a serious risk of fire or explosion.

Vikas Kumar, an official from the Food Supply Department, was also present at the scene. He confirmed that storing cylinders from other companies against the license conditions is illegal. An FIR has been registered at the Crime Branch police station under Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and Section 61(2) of the Indian Penal Code. The warehouse owner was not present during the raid and is currently at large. Police are actively searching for him.

Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing. They are tracing the entire supply chain, looking for other individuals involved, and identifying the black marketing network. The public is urged to purchase LPG cylinders only from authorized dealers and to report any suspicious activities immediately.
