Raipur, April 18: In a significant anti-Maoist operation, security forces have uncovered a large cache of explosives hidden by Maoists in the dense forests of Anuppur, under the jurisdiction of the Anuppur police station in Bijapur district.
Acting on reliable intelligence, a joint team from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) launched an operation towards Pillur-Annarama, leading to the discovery of the secret stash.
The explosives were cleverly concealed inside a white plastic water tank buried underground. Maoist operatives often use such tactics to store materials for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The recovered materials included 50 kilograms of sulfur, nearly 100 kilograms of urea packed in two bags, and 10 kilograms of explosives. These substances are commonly used by left-wing extremists to create powerful explosives for ambushing security personnel and civilians in the Bastar region.
Following strict security protocols, the forces destroyed the entire cache on-site to prevent any risk of accidental detonation or misuse. There have been no reports of casualties or injuries during the recovery and destruction process.
This successful operation highlights the ongoing vigilance of security forces in Maoist-affected areas of southern Chhattisgarh.
Bijapur district has long been a stronghold for Naxalite activities, where hidden explosive devices (IEDs) and stockpiles of weapons are frequently discovered in its rugged forested regions.
The DRG-BDS joint team continues to conduct intensive searches, maintain control over the area, and carry out operations to deactivate landmines, ensuring the safety of local residents and applying pressure on remaining Maoist elements.
Senior police officials have urged the people of Bijapur to remain vigilant. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious objects, containers, or activities in the forests or surrounding areas to the nearest police station or security camp. Such public cooperation plays a crucial role in preventing potential threats and strengthening anti-terrorism efforts.
