Imphal, April 23: Security forces have seized advanced weapons and ammunition along the India-Myanmar border on Wednesday. In a separate operation, six illegal bunkers were destroyed in the hilly Kangpokpi district, officials reported.
A senior police officer stated that the seizures occurred in the border area under the jurisdiction of the Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district.
The confiscated items included an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, a carbine with a magazine, four improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and two Motorola radio sets. The IEDs were safely destroyed on-site.
Manipur shares a nearly 400-kilometer unfenced border with Myanmar across five districts: Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Kamjong, and Ukhrul.
Officials noted that security forces also dismantled six illegal bunkers in areas under the Saikul police station in Kangpokpi district. Additionally, 12 empty shells of 7.62 mm ammunition were recovered from the site.
In ongoing operations, security forces have previously destroyed over 100 illegal bunkers linked to various militant groups and armed cadres.
Central and state agencies are intensifying actions against militant activities. Search operations and control exercises are underway in border areas with mixed populations and sensitive regions.
To curb the movement of illegal elements and suspicious vehicles, a total of 112 checkpoints have been established in the valley and hill districts of Manipur.
Security personnel are providing protection for vehicles transporting essential goods, including trucks on the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37). Strict security measures and convoy protection protocols are in place to ensure safe vehicle movement in sensitive areas.
Meanwhile, the Manipur police have urged the public not to believe in rumors and to be cautious of fake videos circulating on social media.
