Major Drug Trafficking Module Linked to Pakistan Disrupted, Three Masterminds Arrested

Chandigarh, March 22: The Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF), has successfully dismantled a drug trafficking module supported by Pakistan.

Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on Sunday that three masterminds have been arrested during this operation. Authorities seized 24.5 kilograms of heroin and 2.1 million rupees in drug money from the suspects.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Jagjit Singh, alias Rana, from Noorwal village in Amritsar; Manpreet Singh, alias Preet, from Aulakh Khurd village in Amritsar; and Roshan Singh from Dhupshari village, also in Amritsar.

In addition to the heroin and cash, the BSF and police teams confiscated a multi-rotor drone. This drone was reportedly used by traffickers based in Pakistan to transport shipments across the border. Two vehicles were also seized during the operation.

DGP Yadav stated that initial investigations revealed direct links between the arrested suspects and handlers based in Pakistan. Following a technical investigation, police teams successfully dismantled this international trafficking network connected to Pakistan. Further inquiries are ongoing to establish additional connections.

SP Gurpreet Singh of the ANTF explained that the operation was conducted in two phases, with the first phase resulting in the recovery of 12.1 kilograms of heroin and one multi-rotor drone.

Based on forensic analysis of the drone, an additional 12.4 kilograms of heroin was recovered from Manpreet Singh’s residence, bringing the total seizure to 24.5 kilograms.

Authorities noted that Jagjit Rana had recently purchased properties in upscale areas using drug money and had a penchant for luxury cars.

As the investigation progresses, more arrests and recoveries are anticipated. A case has been registered under sections 21(c) and 23 of the NDPS Act, as well as sections 25, 26, and 29 of the Aircraft Act at the Mohali police station.
