Major Drug Bust in Chatra: Over ₹1.5 Crore Worth of Opium Seized

Chatra, April 14: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Chatra district, Jharkhand, achieved a major success for the second consecutive day. Authorities conducted a raid in the Lawalong police station area, recovering a large quantity of illegal opium, poppy husk, and poppy seeds. The seized opium is estimated to be worth around ₹1 crore in the international market.

Earlier, on Monday, approximately ₹50 lakh worth of narcotics were confiscated from the Kunda police station area. Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar Agarwal shared this information during a press conference held at the district collectorate on Tuesday. The SP received a tip-off indicating that individuals in Khakhar village of Rimi Panchayat were stockpiling illegal substances in their homes, preparing to sell them to external traffickers.

Following the verification of this information, a special raid team was formed under the leadership of Simaria SDPO Shubham Kumar Khandelwal. The team raided the homes of Amarik Ganjhu, Manoj Ganjhu, Sarju Ganjhu, Madan Ganjhu, Vinod Ganjhu, and Pintu Ganjhu, recovering a substantial amount of narcotics.

In this case, all accused individuals have been charged under the NDPS Act at the Lawalong police station. Police are currently conducting operations to apprehend the suspects. The raid team included the SDPO, NDPS station in-charge Shami Ansari, Lawalong station in-charge Chandan Kumar, SI Vidhay Prasad Yadav, and armed forces personnel.

Previously, on Monday, police also raided a house in Batukuiya village of the Kunda police station area, where they seized around 840 grams of illegal opium, 3 quintals and 15 kilograms of poppy husk, and 35 kilograms of poppy seeds from the residence of Gyani Ganjhu. The total estimated value of the seized narcotics and the equipment used for opium production, such as motor pumps, pipes, and pesticide spray machines, is around ₹50 lakh.

SP Sumit Kumar Agarwal issued a stern warning that strict legal action will be taken against individuals involved in the illegal drug trade within the district. The police operations involved Simaria SDPO, NDPS station in-charge Shami Ansari, Lawalong station in-charge Chandan Kumar, Kunda station in-charge Prince Kumar Singh, and armed forces personnel.
