Major Development in Darshan Fan Murder Case: Accused Seeks Government Witness Status

Bengaluru, August 6: A significant turn has emerged in the murder case of fan Renukaswamy, linked to Kannada superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa, also known as ‘D-Boss’. The accused, Pradosh, has requested the court for permission to become a government witness, expressing his willingness to reveal the complete truth about the incident.

On Thursday, Pradosh submitted a plea through his lawyer in the 59th CCH (Certificate in Community Health) court. In his application, he sought forgiveness and requested to be recognized as a government witness. Additionally, he filed another request to be presented via video conferencing from a separate room, away from the other accused and actor Darshan.

Currently, Pradosh is being presented in the same room as Darshan and the other accused during video conferencing.

The court has acknowledged Pradosh’s plea and has sought a response from the prosecution. In the next hearing, the prosecution will need to clarify its stance on this request. The court will then decide whether to grant Pradosh the status of a government witness.

Legally, becoming a government witness means that the accused confesses to their crime and provides evidence against the other accused. If the court accepts Pradosh’s request, his testimony could significantly alter the direction of the case, potentially revealing crucial details about the events leading to Renukaswamy’s murder.

Renukaswamy, 33, was a resident of Chitradurga and a fan of Darshan. He allegedly sent inappropriate messages to Darshan’s partner, Pavitra Gowda, in June 2024. This led to him being summoned to Bengaluru.

Once there, he was held captive in a shed and brutally beaten. He succumbed to his injuries, and his body was later discarded near a drain.

In this case, a total of 17 individuals, including Darshan Thoogudeepa and Pavitra Gowda, were arrested. The Supreme Court later revoked Darshan’s bail and ordered his immediate re-arrest, also instructing that he should not receive VIP treatment in jail.

This case has sparked outrage among fans in Karnataka. Recently, during Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s speech at the Sri Chamundeshwari Devi Karaga festival in Ramanagara, supporters of Darshan interrupted by chanting ‘D-Boss’, demanding the CM’s intervention in the case.

Calming the crowd, CM Shivakumar acknowledged the public’s sentiments but emphasized that the matter is in court and must be handled within the legal framework.
