Amritsar, August 13: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has made significant strides in combating drug and arms trafficking by uncovering two major cross-border networks. In this operation, five suspects have been arrested.
Authorities seized seven illegal pistols and 2.3 kilograms of heroin from the accused. Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with smugglers based abroad. It is alleged that they were preparing to acquire illegal weapons from overseas and supply them to areas in Amritsar and Tarn Taran.
The police are now conducting an in-depth investigation into the suspects’ alleged connections with foreign traffickers. Officials state that the smuggling racket has links that extend across borders. Two separate FIRs have been registered in the Amritsar police stations of Islamabad and Sultanwind regarding this case.
Investigators are working to identify additional individuals connected to these networks. They are also examining how the arms and drugs were transported to Punjab.
Authorities are delving into the forward and backward links of the accused, aiming to understand the entire chain of supply, including who provided the weapons and drugs and who was meant to receive them.
Efforts are ongoing to identify handlers operating across the border and their local contacts.
