Hoshiarpur, April 20: Punjab Police has achieved significant successes in its ongoing campaign against drug and illegal arms trafficking. A total of seven suspects have been arrested, with a large quantity of weapons and narcotics seized.
The first operation took place in Hoshiarpur district, where local police dismantled an interstate and international drug and arms trafficking gang. Four suspects were apprehended, leading to the recovery of approximately 9.925 kilograms of heroin, two foreign pistols, eight magazines, and 40 live cartridges.
Initial investigations revealed that these suspects were acting as local associates of a foreign gangster network. Their operations involved not only the supply of narcotics but also the expansion of the illegal arms supply chain.
An FIR has been registered at the Garhshankar police station. Authorities are now conducting an in-depth investigation into the entire network to determine the origin of the heroin and the extent of its distribution. The police are also tracking the arms supply line.
In a separate operation, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police uncovered a gang involved in cross-border and Madhya Pradesh-based arms trafficking. Three suspects were arrested, with a total of six pistols recovered, including one PX5 .30 bore, three .32 bore, and two other .30 bore pistols, along with seven live cartridges.
Investigations revealed that these suspects were sourcing illegal weapons from Madhya Pradesh and were in contact with traffickers based in Pakistan via social media. Their network was actively supplying arms to criminals in Punjab, indicating a well-organized cross-border and interstate arms supply chain.
An FIR has been filed at the Civil Lines police station in Amritsar. The police are now working to identify additional individuals involved in this network and to ascertain the crimes in which these weapons were used.
