
New Delhi, June 5: The anti-burglary cell of Dwarka district has successfully apprehended a proclaimed offender who had been on the run for three years in connection with an attempted murder case. The suspect, identified as Avanish alias Kunal (28), was arrested in the Vikaspuri area.
According to Dwarka district police, Avanish was declared a proclaimed offender by the Dwarka Court on February 16, 2023, under FIR number 824/2022, which pertains to Section 307/34 of the Indian Penal Code (attempted murder). He had fled after allegedly attacking the complainant with a knife along with his accomplices.
Following the incident, the accused abandoned his previous address and evaded capture by residing in a rented accommodation in the Vikaspuri area. Under the direction of DCP Kushal Pal Singh, the anti-burglary cell had been actively searching for proclaimed offenders and those wanted in serious cases.
A team led by Inspector Vivek Maindola, which included ASI Rajesh, Head Constable Praveen, Head Constable Krishna, and Woman Head Constable Sonia, was assigned to locate the fugitive. Under the supervision of ACP Operations Subhash Malik, the team received a tip-off indicating that the accused was hiding in Vikaspuri. Acting on this information, the police conducted a raid and successfully apprehended Avanish alias Kunal. Following his arrest, he was presented in court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
Police investigations revealed that Avanish is a resident of Delhi. His father works as a laborer in a factory, while his mother is employed as a domestic helper. He completed education up to the eighth grade before dropping out. Subsequently, he fell into bad company and became addicted to drugs, which led him to a life of crime.
On September 3, 2022, following a dispute with the complainant, Avanish and his associates attacked him with a knife, inflicting serious injuries to the complainant’s abdomen. After the attack, the accused fled the scene with his accomplices and had been evading police capture ever since.
