Pune, August 6: In a tragic incident that occurred between May 27 and May 30, 2026, toxic liquor claimed the lives of 21 individuals in Pune, Maharashtra. This disaster has devastated numerous families permanently. In response, the State Crime Investigation Department (CID) has taken action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, 1999 (MCOCA).
The investigation revealed that the consumption of methanol-laced illicit country-made liquor led to the deaths of four people from Hadapsar and 17 from Dapodi-Fugewadi, totaling 21 fatalities.
During the investigation, it was uncovered that the main accused, Dutta alias Bhau Bhivraw Londe, a resident of Pandharsthali, Uruli Kanchan (Taluka Haveli, Pune district), formed an organized criminal gang with accomplices including Akash Deepak Jadhav, Yogesh Rajendra Vhanakde, Radheshyam Hariram Prajapati, Kalpesh Ashok Agrawal, Aryan Sanjeev Dhotre, Abhishek Arun Chaube, Arun Jagdamba Chaube, and Ankit Arun Chaube. This gang illegally manufactured, transported, and sold country-made liquor for financial gain.
According to the CID, the gang’s criminal activities created an atmosphere of fear, insecurity, and terror among the citizens of Pune district. The gang leader and his members have several serious criminal cases registered against them. Despite preventive measures, their criminal activities did not cease. Therefore, a proposal to impose MCOCA was sent to effectively curb organized crime and dismantle the entire network.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Shamaraw Kale reviewed all evidence and criminal records, subsequently submitting a report through Superintendent of Police Shafqat Aamna to Special Inspector General of Police (Crime West) Sudhir Hiremath. After reviewing the case, Sudhir Hiremath approved the application of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused Dutta Londe and his associates.
This action was taken under the guidance of Additional Director General of Police (CID) Sunil Ramanand, Special Inspector General of Police (Crime West) Sudhir Hiremath, and Superintendent of Police Shafqat Aamna, led by investigating officer Deputy Superintendent of Police Shamaraw Kale. Following the tragedy that resulted in 21 deaths, this action under MCOCA is seen as a significant step towards justice for the victimized families.
