New Delhi, March 31: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta participated in a religious event organized by the Shri Digambar Jain Mahasabha in Rohini on Tuesday. He called for compassion and non-violence towards all living beings.
Gupta emphasized that those who practice compassion truly follow the eternal principles of Lord Mahavir. The event, held on the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, was filled with spiritual fervor and a collective call for global peace.
According to a statement released by his constituency office, Gupta received blessings from revered Jain saints during the ceremony and was formally honored for his dedicated service to the citizens of Delhi.
Presenting the ancient wisdom of the 24th Tirthankara as a guide for modern governance and social harmony, Gupta stressed that Mahavir Jayanti is not merely a festival but a divine call for self-reflection and soul-searching.
Reflecting on the life of Prince Vardhaman, the speaker noted that Lord Mahavir demonstrated that true valor lies not in the edge of a sword but in conquering one’s mind and overcoming anger, greed, and ego.
Gupta redefined the principle of “Ahimsa Paramo Dharma,” stating that non-violence is not cowardice but the pinnacle of courage. He highlighted the principle of Anekantavada (the diversity of perspectives) as a remedy for today’s fragmented society, asserting that my truth is not complete; there is light in your truth as well.
Discussing the principle of Aparigraha (non-attachment), he mentioned that Lord Mahavir had already provided solutions to the global climate crisis centuries ago by teaching the importance of not exploiting nature and avoiding excessive accumulation.
Gupta urged the citizens of Delhi to make the celebration of Mahavir Jayanti meaningful by embodying these principles in their lives rather than limiting the festivities to mere processions.
As the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, he formally pledged to ensure that the ideals of Lord Mahavir reach every citizen and to promote a culture of compassion in the capital.
The event concluded with the speaker participating in formal rituals and engaging with community leaders, reaffirming his commitment to the welfare and spiritual heritage of Delhi.
