Mumbai, June 23: The political landscape in Maharashtra is currently dominated by discussions surrounding the inclusion of six rebel MPs from Uddhav Thackeray’s faction (UBT) into Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has declared this operation a success. However, Maharashtra Minister Chhagan Bhujbal stated that his party, the NCP, does not require such operations.
During a media interaction in Mumbai, when asked if the NCP plans to initiate any operations, Bhujbal responded, “We do not conduct operations, nor do we need to.”
He emphasized that the true measure of ‘Operation Tiger’s’ success will be revealed during the elections, based on the public’s reaction.
In response to a statement from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, Bhujbal remarked, “What can I say about his statement? He is the party spokesperson, an MP, and also an editor. He has a wealth of words to choose from, and I have little to add.”
NCP leader Zeeshan Siddiqui commented on ‘Operation Tiger,’ stating that the media has labeled it as such. He believes that the Shiv Sena (UBT) members are unhappy, as they struggle to connect with the party’s top leadership. He noted that even local workers of Uddhav Thackeray find it challenging to meet or converse with him.
BJP MP Ashok Chavan dismissed the notion of ‘Operation Tiger,’ asserting that everything done has been lawful and legitimate.
BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar remarked, “If everyone is saying that ‘Operation Tiger’ was successful, what more can I say? Not everyone can be wrong.”
Minister Girish Mahajan added that the central government currently holds significant power. He mentioned that several MPs from Bengal, Maharashtra, and other states are joining their ranks, ensuring their control and sufficient numbers to pass future bills.
On the other hand, SP MLA Abu Azmi criticized the approval of a committee to draft the UCC bill, claiming that the government aims to introduce the NRC to remove Muslims from the country. He accused them of labeling Muslims as traitors.
Regarding the controversy over donations for the Ram Temple, Azmi stated that those invoking Lord Ram are misleading the nation. He alleged corruption in collecting funds under Ram’s name, which remains unchecked. He believes this reflects a major failure of the government, urging the public to consider this issue, as Ram’s name is being exploited for electoral gains.
Shiv Sena MLA Nilesh Narayan Rane countered Azmi’s comments, questioning what Azmi truly understands. He accused Azmi of only speaking in terms of religion and attempting to create division and conflict in the assembly. Rane asserted that serious issues like finance and development are neglected, with the focus instead on disrupting the assembly and undermining Maharashtra’s social fabric.
He concluded by stating that the UCC should be implemented, highlighting that the issue of triple talaq was raised in the assembly, focusing on the protection and rights of women in the Muslim community.
