Mumbai, March 17: Amidst global tensions in the Middle East, rumors and panic regarding the availability of domestic and commercial gas cylinders have emerged in Vasai-Virar. In response, the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) convened a high-level meeting on March 17, 2026, at its headquarters.
The meeting was chaired by Mayor Ajiv Patil and attended by Municipal Commissioner Manoj Kumar Suryavanshi (IAS), the local revenue officer, district supply department officials, gas agencies, the Hotels Association, police department representatives, and other officials.
During the meeting, a comprehensive review of the stock, distribution system, and demand for LPG cylinders in the city was conducted. Gas agencies and the supply department clarified that there is a sufficient stock of domestic gas cylinders available. Consumers will receive timely deliveries after booking. Commissioner Suryavanshi urged citizens not to believe in rumors, avoid unnecessary gatherings, and refrain from spreading panic. He emphasized that domestic gas should only be used for household purposes, warning that strict action will be taken against commercial or illegal use.
The administration instructed gas distributors to ensure timely deliveries. Orders were issued to refrain from demanding and distributing cylinders in areas with pipeline gas availability. Compliance with safety standards was made mandatory, and citizens were advised to contact the police helpline at 112 in case of emergencies. Currently, only 10 percent of the demand for commercial use is being met, with efforts underway at the government level to increase supply.
Representatives from the khakhra industry and Hotels Association reported the impact on their businesses. The administration directed representatives from Gujarat Gas to assist small industries with essential gas supplies. Mayor Ajiv Patil appealed to citizens to maintain peace, stay away from rumors, and reach out to local representatives. He assured that the administration and elected officials would provide all possible support.
This meeting took place during a time when the LPG supply across the country is under pressure due to the crisis in the Middle East.
