Mahakal Temple Hosts Grand Bhasma Aarti with Devotional Splendor

Ujjain, August 22: On the auspicious occasion of Shravana Shukla Paksha Dashami, the Mahakaleshwar Temple held a spectacular Bhasma Aarti for Baba Mahakal. A large number of devotees gathered to witness this divine event.

Early Saturday morning, after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As the devotees got a glimpse of Baba Mahakal following the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and sacred mantras.

With the opening of the temple gates, amidst the chanting, Baba Mahakal was bathed with Panchamrit, made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. During the worship, the first bell was rung, and Hari Om water was offered. After the Kapoor Aarti, Baba donned a crown. Following this, the Bhasma Aarti was performed with the accompaniment of jingles, drums, and conch shells. Baba Mahakal was adorned with bhang, a moon, tripund, trinetr, a silver crown, and a mund mala.

The temple priests conducted the Maha Aarti, allowing numerous devotees to witness the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal. Many devotees had queued since the previous night to have a glimpse of their revered deity. Traditionally, men are required to wear dhoti and women sarees during the Bhasma Aarti.

According to tradition, the Maha Nirvani Akhara offers the Bhasma Aarti to Baba Mahakal. It is believed that after the offering of Bhasma, Baba Mahakal manifests from the formless to the form. A significant number of devotees travel to the holy city of Ujjain to participate in this sacred Aarti.
