Madhya Pradesh Prioritizes Wheat Procurement for Farmers, Says Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Bhopal, April 25: Central Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized that the convenience of farmers should be the top priority during the wheat procurement process. While reviewing the procurement in four districts of the Vidisha parliamentary constituency, he held a detailed meeting with local representatives and officials in Raisen on Saturday.

The meeting focused on ensuring transparency, timeliness, and prioritizing farmers’ needs in the procurement process. Chouhan instructed officials to streamline the slot booking system, ensure adequate availability of jute bags, and prevent any inconvenience to farmers at procurement centers.

He made it clear that any negligence in wheat procurement would not be tolerated. Chouhan stated, “Our only resolve is that farmers are like gods to us, and they should not face any difficulties. We are not doing a favor by purchasing from farmers; rather, we are indebted to them for making the country self-sufficient in wheat.”

He directed officials to work as a team and ensure prompt resolution of all farmers’ complaints. Chouhan also called for regular reviews of the total procurement target, the status of slot bookings, the number of procurement centers, the quantity procured so far, the availability of jute bags, and the basic facilities at these centers.

He insisted that purchases should only be made from genuine farmers and that any irregularities should be closely monitored. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of conveying a clear message to farmers that their produce would be purchased under all circumstances.

Respecting farmers’ hard work is our primary responsibility, he added. The wheat procurement process must be completely transparent, organized, and farmer-friendly. Every official should ensure that farmers do not have to wander to sell their produce.

The meeting also discussed the situation in Vidisha district in detail. The Agriculture Minister instructed that if necessary, the number of procurement centers should be increased to avoid inconveniences due to time constraints. He also directed immediate resolution of server issues, ensuring the availability of jute bags at each procurement center, and addressing problems related to bank payments.

Chouhan urged officials to ensure that procurement must happen at all costs. If needed, decisions should be made promptly to increase procurement centers and strengthen arrangements. He assured that he is available 24/7 for any issues and ready to assist with just a phone call. Additionally, he instructed for regular monitoring and continuous field inspections to ensure the wheat procurement process operates smoothly.
