Madhya Pradesh Offers Electricity Connections to Farmers for Just ₹5: CM Mohan Yadav

Bhopal, March 16: In a significant initiative for farmers, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that Madhya Pradesh is the only state in India providing electricity connections to farmers for just ₹5. Speaking at an agricultural orientation workshop held at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Center, he emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing farmer welfare during the ‘Kisan Kalyan Varsh’ (Farmer Welfare Year) 2026.

Yadav stated that various departments will collaborate to implement agricultural development and welfare schemes effectively. The aim is to increase farmers’ incomes through accelerated measures. The government is focused on ensuring that the benefits of the Kisan Kalyan Varsh reach farming families.

He highlighted the state’s potential in milk production and animal husbandry, noting that efforts to realize these opportunities are yielding positive results. The goal is to raise milk production from 9% to 20%. Over the past 18 months, milk collection in the state has increased by 25%, now totaling 1.25 million liters daily. Additionally, the price of milk has risen by ₹5 per liter, directly benefiting dairy producers.

To promote self-sufficiency in cow shelters and manage agricultural waste, the state government is providing tractors, trailers, and straw machines. Furthermore, the government has launched the Mata Yashoda scheme to distribute free milk to school children.

CM Mohan Yadav also mentioned the development of religious tourism, with the Tourism Department introducing a homestay scheme. Income up to ₹20 lakh for homestay operators will be exempt from GST. Farmers are also benefiting from honey production in the small-scale cottage industry sector.

He noted that nearly all major departments participated in the workshop, which addresses about 60% of the state’s population. Continuous efforts are underway to expand irrigation coverage to 10 million hectares, and new medical colleges are being established across the state.
