Bhopal, April 29: In a significant move aimed at empowering students from backward classes, the Madhya Pradesh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has approved a historic increase in scholarship amounts.
Students from backward classes pursuing higher education in Delhi will now receive ₹10,000 monthly, a substantial rise from the previous amount of ₹1,550. This enhanced financial aid will benefit 100 new students each year, equally divided between undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Eligibility is contingent upon meeting the criteria for post-matric scholarships and parental income limits.
A press release indicates that in addition to educational support, the state government has decided to initiate a major development plan exceeding ₹26,800 crores.
New administrative approvals for medical colleges in Bhopal and Rewa will significantly enhance healthcare facilities. Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal will receive approximately ₹80 crores to increase the number of postgraduate seats and establish specialized units like a bone marrow transplant unit.
Additionally, ₹175 crores have been approved for the expansion of the super specialty hospital at Shyam Shah Medical College in Rewa. This further strengthens the government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services across the state.
A substantial portion of the total fund, amounting to ₹26,311 crores, has been allocated to the Public Works Department (PWD). This funding will be utilized over the next five years for construction and repair projects, including road maintenance, divisional office establishment, and compensation for land acquisition, all aimed at modernizing the state’s infrastructure by 2031.
During the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, special economic arrangements were also discussed to address essential needs in villages and communities. The ‘Lakhundar High Pressure Micro Irrigation Project,’ costing ₹155.82 crores, has been approved. This project will provide irrigation facilities to 9,200 hectares of land across 24 villages in Shajapur and Ujjain districts.
Furthermore, ₹80.41 crores have been allocated to supply electricity to 38,901 Anganwadi centers, ensuring that children have access to a comfortable environment with fans, coolers, and smart learning tools.
