Madhya Pradesh Emerges as an International Hub for Vulture Conservation Under CM Mohan Yadavs Leadership

Bhopal, May 10: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Madhya Pradesh is carving a new identity in wildlife conservation. The state is emerging as an international hub for vulture conservation. Recently, the inspiring journey of a cinereous vulture from Madhya Pradesh has brought global recognition to the state’s conservation efforts.

The rare cinereous vulture was rescued on December 19, 2025, from the Sironj area in Vidisha district. Found injured and weak, the bird received treatment at the Vihar National Park in Bhopal, in collaboration with the BNHS at the Vulture Conservation Breeding Center in Kerwa.

After regaining health, CM Dr. Yadav released the vulture into its natural habitat at the Halali Dam in Raisen district on February 23. Following its release, the vulture spent nearly a month in the Halali Dam area, adapting to its natural environment.

With the support of WWF-India and BNHS, Vihar initiated GPS tracking of the vulture. This scientific monitoring allows for close observation of the bird’s activities and migration. According to tracking data, the vulture began its long international journey on April 10, departing from Halali Dam. It crossed into Pakistan and Afghanistan from Rajasthan, reaching Uzbekistan on May 4, covering over 3,000 kilometers.

This remarkable journey exemplifies the extraordinary navigation skills, resilience, and tenacity of vultures. It also reflects the Madhya Pradesh government’s serious commitment to wildlife conservation and a scientific approach. Through continuous efforts in vulture conservation, modern treatment facilities, scientific monitoring, and collaboration with national and international organizations, Madhya Pradesh is emerging as a source of inspiration for the global wildlife conservation community. The state is establishing a strong presence on the world map for vulture conservation.
