Macron Highlights Shared Responsibilities Between France and China

Beijing, December 7: French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking at Sichuan University on December 5, emphasized that France and China share common responsibilities.

He stated that France and China hold similar perspectives in economic, diplomatic, and other areas. Through exchanges in humanities, education, and other fields, both sides can enhance cooperation among their people to jointly build a 21st century capable of addressing the challenges of our time.

At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, Macron arrived in Beijing on the afternoon of December 3 for a state visit to China. On the evening of December 4, Macron proceeded to Chengdu to continue his visit, and on December 5 evening, he departed Chengdu, concluding his three-day trip to China.

On the afternoon of December 5, Macron visited Sichuan University. In his speech, he noted that the world is undergoing profound and complex changes, including geopolitical upheavals and climate crises. “We are collectively facing deep transformations concerning our way of life, our environment, and the future of our planet. Addressing these challenges requires international cooperation, mutual understanding, joint thinking, and practical discussions,” he said.

Macron added that as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, France and China share a special mission. Based on their experiences, when cooperation is built on mutual respect and understanding, it becomes possible to move beyond national borders and regions and to advance peace, prosperity, and the climate agenda with a shared sense of responsibility.

“I firmly believe that both China and France are countries with great civilizations, and their foundation is based on mutual respect, mutual understanding, friendship, and love,” Macron remarked.
