Lucknow, April 18: The capital of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, has achieved a significant milestone in solar energy, securing the top position in solar installations across the country. The PM Surya Home Scheme, which provides free electricity through rooftop solar energy, has propelled Lucknow to a national leadership role in this sector.
According to Indrajeet Singh, Director of the Uttar Pradesh Renewable Energy Agency, over 87,000 rooftop solar systems have been installed in Lucknow under the PM Surya Home Scheme, the highest in any district nationwide. As of April 15, a total of 3,133 rooftop solar units have been set up in the city, cementing its status as a frontrunner in solar energy adoption.
Experts indicate that the rising use of induction cooktops in urban areas, coupled with the increasing demand for electric vehicles, has led to a notable rise in electricity consumption. Additionally, the desire to control escalating electricity bills and growing environmental awareness has motivated residents to adopt solar energy rapidly.
Rooftop solar systems are providing long-term economic benefits to consumers, fostering energy independence. The solar subsidies from both the central and state governments, along with a straightforward application process, have played a crucial role in this growth. Furthermore, collaboration with DISCOMs and related agencies has streamlined the installation process, making it faster and more efficient.
