Leh Launches Major Clean-Up Initiative to Tackle Dust and Debris

Leh, March 20: The administration in Leh, Ladakh, has initiated a comprehensive campaign to make the city cleaner and more organized. Following directives from Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena, relevant agencies have mobilized to focus on the city’s cleanliness and beautification.

Vinay Kumar Saxena shared updates on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Efforts are underway to swiftly remove dust accumulated along the roads and debris from construction and demolition activities. In the initial phase, priority areas include Lok Nivas, the secretariat, Leh main market, and surrounding regions.”

He added that alongside cleaning, there are plans to enhance greenery by planting trees, with excavation work already in progress. This campaign was launched after the Lieutenant Governor’s visit to Leh market and the old town on March 15, where he assessed the cleanliness, infrastructure conditions, and urban management issues, instructing officials to take immediate action.

Lieutenant Governor Saxena is personally overseeing this initiative and has praised the efforts of government agencies. He emphasized that such organized efforts will play a crucial role in making Leh-Ladakh a cleaner, more organized, and attractive destination for tourists.

He stressed that not only government efforts but also local community participation is essential for the success of this mission. Through collective cooperation and continuous efforts, Ladakh can establish itself as a prominent global tourist destination. The primary aim of this campaign is to free Leh from dust, debris, and construction-related waste, creating a better urban environment.

The administration believes this initiative will not only enhance the city’s beauty but also promote environmental conservation and sustainable development. Positive outcomes from this initiative are expected in the near future.
