Ranchi, August 7: In response to irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) exams, several student organizations have announced a protest at the state assembly in Ranchi on Friday. A large number of students are gathering at Birsa Chowk from early morning.
Given the ongoing monsoon session of the Jharkhand Assembly, the district administration has implemented stringent security measures. This march is organized by leftist student groups including AISA, RYA, AISF, and the Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha. Neha Bora, the national president of AISA, is expected to play a prominent role in the event.
The protesters plan to head towards the assembly at noon. Their demands include the cancellation of the 14th JPSC preliminary exam, a thorough investigation by the CBI and ED into the matter, the public release of OMR sheets, and full compliance with the examination calendar. In light of the assembly session, extensive security arrangements have been made. Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in the area from Birsa Chowk to the assembly from August 6 to August 12.
Heavy deployment of security forces and barricades have been set up to prevent protesters from entering restricted areas. Additionally, the weather department has issued alerts for rain and thunderstorms in the city today, which may affect both traffic and security arrangements. Meanwhile, a clear division among student organizations regarding the ongoing movement for exam reforms has emerged.
The original student group, which has been on a hunger strike at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium for the past two weeks, has distanced itself from today’s march. The core committee of the group, known as the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Platform, has clarified that their movement is non-political and they will not protest under any political party or its student organization’s banner. They have announced their own independent assembly siege on August 10.
