Kolkata Police Suspends Officer Over Social Media Conduct

Kolkata, April 27: The Kolkata Police have taken significant action by suspending one of their officers due to a social media post. This decision comes as part of an ongoing investigation into the officer’s online activities. The police department has stated that a thorough inquiry is underway, and further actions will be determined based on its findings.

Reports indicate that the officer is accused of engaging in social media activities that could violate service conduct rules. Consequently, the department has opted for suspension to ensure an impartial investigation.

Following this incident, the Kolkata Police have issued strict directives to all personnel. The instructions clearly state that no officer should post, share, or like any content on social media that breaches regulations or could influence the electoral environment.

On Monday, the Kolkata Police announced on the social media platform X that, “One officer has been suspended pending an investigation into their conduct on social media. All personnel have been instructed to completely refrain from posting, sharing, or endorsing any material that violates service conduct rules or the code of ethics. They are also reminded to maintain complete impartiality during the electoral process and ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections.”

It is noteworthy that West Bengal is currently in the midst of assembly elections. The first phase took place on April 23, with the second phase of voting scheduled for April 29. In light of this, the West Bengal Police are fully committed to maintaining law and order. All officers have been directed to remain impartial during the electoral process, ensuring that elections are conducted peacefully, freely, and fairly.
