
Kolkata, February 15: Kolkata Police have arrested six individuals in two separate theft cases. This action took place during an unannounced visit by Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar, who is monitoring the city’s law and order situation. Police sources provided this information on Sunday.
Among those arrested, four are from Gujarat. The suspects have been identified as Anil Ramju Salat, Dhiru Kalo Salat, Sameer Salat, and Raju Kumar. They were apprehended on theft charges by the intelligence department’s ‘Watch’ branch at Hastings area, near the Kolkata Police headquarters.
According to sources, a theft case was registered at the Jorasanko police station on January 14. The four suspects were named in this case. Investigation teams had been searching for them for the past month. Ultimately, they were arrested on Saturday in the Hastings area.
In another incident, two suspects linked to a theft complaint filed at the Girish Park police station on January 20 were arrested on Saturday in the Park Circus area. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Shah Nawaz, also known as Sunny, and Mohammad Sameer. Both are residents of the Entally area in central Kolkata. They are accused of stealing a mobile phone and cash from a cab driver’s vehicle.
Police sources indicated that during a recent monthly crime prevention meeting, Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar instructed that police visibility should increase throughout the city during peak hours. On Saturday, the commissioner took to the streets himself to assess the effectiveness of these directives. On the same day, the six individuals were arrested in connection with the two thefts that occurred about a month ago.
