Surat, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : The cyber crime branch of Surat police has arrested a 46-year-old woman from Kerala in connection with an online investment fraud amounting to ₹13.10 lakh. The victim was lured with promises of returns exceeding five percent through share trading.
The accused has been identified as Salina Thadian. She allegedly opened a joint current account at Federal Bank in the name of a firm established with her son. This account was reportedly used to facilitate the illegal transfer of funds from cyber fraud in exchange for a three percent commission to an absconding accomplice.
Investigations via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal revealed 12 complaints from various states. According to police, four FIRs were registered in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Telangana, with ₹33.40 lakh suspected to be deposited from cyber fraud into the account.
Police reported that between January 9 and July 29, 2026, a total of ₹39.70 lakh was transacted through this account. The scheme involved enticing the victim with the promise of high returns on investments in share trading.
Initially, the accused added the victim to a group on a messaging app, persuading them to buy shares through their purported company by claiming attractive potential profits. They then sent a link to a fake website, convincing the victim to register an account in their name. This website was designed to create the illusion that the victim could earn substantial profits through share trading.
Furthermore, the accused allegedly circulated forged documents issued by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), including a letter dated July 27, 2026. The victim was persuaded to transfer ₹13.10 lakh into the accounts provided by the accused. However, when the victim later requested to withdraw funds, the money was not released, leading to the filing of a cyber crime complaint.
