Thiruvananthapuram, March 20: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the President of the Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), launched a scathing attack on the Congress party on Friday. His remarks came after Congress leader Shama Mohammed expressed concerns about the low representation of women in the ticket allocation for the upcoming state assembly elections on April 9.
In a post on the social media platform X, Shama Mohammed urged Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to assist the women members of the Kerala Congress.
She stated, “Rejected, but not defeated. I humbly request my respected leader, Rahul Gandhi, to support the women Congress members in Kerala. Out of the 92 tickets allocated to Congress, only nine have been given to women.”
In her previous post, she highlighted that out of the 16 tickets distributed for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, only one was awarded to a woman. She lamented the situation, saying, “If that woman is talented, then the situation is extremely dire! It’s very unfortunate.”
Responding to Mohammed’s concerns, Chandrasekhar accused Congress of failing to promote talent within the party.
He remarked, “I do not know that woman (Shama Mohammed) nor am I familiar with her background, but it is evident that talent plays no role in Congress’s growth. Otherwise, how can one explain D.K. Shivakumar becoming the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka? There are other factors determining Congress’s growth.”
Chandrasekhar further stated, “It largely depends on how sycophantic you are towards the Gandhi family—what you do for them. If you send cash to the Gandhi family packed in briefcases and boxes, you immediately become a Deputy Chief Minister. That is my opinion, and unfortunately, this is the view of most people in Congress regarding their party.”
