Los Angeles: Renowned Hollywood actress Kate Winslet has shared that returning to her real life after portraying deep and challenging characters on screen is quite difficult.
The Oscar-winning actress spoke on the podcast ‘Lessons from Our Mothers,’ explaining that as an artist, she rarely discusses certain experiences because they feel very personal. She revealed that it is not easy for an actor to step out of a demanding role once it is deeply embodied. Referring to her web series ‘Mare of Easttown,’ Winslet said the role had left her emotionally exhausted.
Kate described the process of resuming normal life after such roles as a kind of “re-entry.” This means reconnecting with friends, returning to family routines, and leaving behind the character that the actor has lived with for a long time. She highlighted that it takes time to completely separate oneself from a role, especially when it has been performed over an extended period for television.
The actress also shared that after working on ‘Mare of Easttown’ in 2021, she needed professional support. Filming was severely disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, originally scheduled to be completed in six months but extended to ten weeks due to interruptions. Kate recalled that she had been playing the character for over a year, which affected her mental balance and made her feel distant from herself.
This experience was the first time she felt the need for professional help to cope. She admitted that discussing this topic feels awkward, as outsiders might find it unusual or overly emotional.
Kate Winslet’s 22-year-old son, Joe Anders, is also entering the acting world. Joe is the son of Kate’s former husband, Sam Mendes, and is currently working on the new series ‘Cape Fear.’ Kate mentioned that she is fully supporting her son through this phase.
She said her son is also going through a similar “re-entry” period, which brings a profound sense of motherhood. Kate encourages him to eat well, take walks, and rest. She believes that sometimes doing nothing is acceptable and one should not feel guilty about it.
