Bengaluru, June 26: Karnataka police have arrested Kenneth, the live-in partner of a woman accused of murdering her parents and younger sister in Bengaluru. The arrest took place in Puducherry on Friday.
This shocking case involves the alleged murders of 55-year-old software professional Somesundar, his 48-year-old wife Muthulakshmi, and their 20-year-old daughter Supriya. The trio was reportedly killed by their elder daughter, Shweta, and her boyfriend Kenneth on Monday at an apartment in Segehalli, located in the KR Puram police station area of East Bengaluru.
Shweta was apprehended earlier at Puducherry railway station, while Kenneth managed to evade capture for some time. According to police, he was hiding in makeshift shanties along the beach to avoid presenting identification at hotels. Special police teams tracked down his hiding place and arrested him.
Kenneth will be presented before a magistrate, after which police are likely to request his custody for further investigation. Meanwhile, Shweta has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody as the investigation into the triple murder continues.
During questioning, Shweta reportedly told investigators that she killed her mother because she felt she had been treated like a “prisoner” for years. She claimed to have harbored resentment towards her mother for many years, alleging that Muthulakshmi was excessively strict during her school and college years, denying her personal freedom.
Investigators noted that Shweta attempted to take full responsibility for the murders, asserting that Kenneth had no involvement. However, police suspect both Shweta and Kenneth were complicit, as evidence from the crime scene and the nature of the victims’ injuries suggest otherwise.
According to investigators, both suspects turned off their mobile phones immediately after fleeing Bengaluru to avoid detection. They also refrained from using ATM cards or digital payment methods to stay off the radar. Due to limited digital evidence, police relied heavily on CCTV footage from highways and toll plazas.
Authorities monitored the suspects’ movements and discovered they were heading towards Tamil Nadu on a motorcycle. Subsequently, police teams were deployed in Tiruchirappalli and Puducherry.
Officials reported that after traveling approximately 300 kilometers, the suspects’ motorcycle broke down near Puducherry. While they were allegedly planning their next move, police teams, which were tracking their activities, gathered intelligence and arrested Shweta. Kenneth, however, managed to escape.
The investigation timeline began on June 21 when Muthulakshmi visited Shweta’s home. Police indicated that a dispute occurred between mother and daughter, leading Muthulakshmi to stay overnight. Investigators suspect that around 1:30 PM on Monday, Shweta and Kenneth murdered Muthulakshmi. They reportedly planned to transport the body to Kenneth’s rented home in the HAL area but abandoned the plan out of fear of being caught.
Police believe that Supriya was stabbed shortly after they entered the house, followed by Somesundar, who was attacked and killed moments later.
