Bengaluru, August 20: The Karnataka Revenue Department has issued an order to continue pensions for eligible beneficiaries under the ‘Social Security Pension Scheme.’ This applies to individuals whose annual income, after verification, falls between ₹32,000 and ₹1,20,000.
Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister G. Parameshwara announced this decision, highlighting that the income limit for various social security pensions, including old-age, widow, and disability pensions, was previously set at ₹32,000. This limit had not been updated for a long time, leaving millions without access to pension benefits. The increase of the annual income limit to ₹1.20 lakh resolves a long-standing issue.
The statement noted that when the ‘Family Database’ information was cross-referenced with the state’s pension beneficiary data, 2,314,544 beneficiaries were identified as having suspicious cases. A mobile app named ‘Sanyojan’ was developed for the physical verification of these beneficiaries.
During this process, pensions for 1,806,032 beneficiaries were temporarily suspended because they either failed to present necessary documents, did not reside at the provided addresses, or did not submit income verification certificates.
After verification through the ‘Sanyojan’ mobile app by village administrative officers, the respective taluk tehsildars were instructed to verify and grant pensions to eligible beneficiaries according to the rules. However, during the physical verification of the 2,314,544 suspicious beneficiaries, officials found that their annual income exceeded ₹32,000.
Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara directed that pensions be continued for those individuals whose annual income is more than ₹32,000 but less than ₹1.20 lakh.
Consequently, the Revenue Department has ordered the continuation of pensions for eligible beneficiaries whose verified annual income is above ₹32,000 and up to ₹1.20 lakh among the 2,314,544 cases.
