Ahmedabad, June 23: The 79th Senior National Aquatic Championship showcased Karnataka’s dominance as they clinched both the men’s and women’s team titles, achieving a remarkable double with a total of 334 points, making them the overall swimming champions.
A total of 22 new records were established during the championship, including 10 in men’s events and 12 in women’s events. Indian swimmers also recorded 17 ‘Best Indian Performances’ throughout the competition, with seven in men’s events and ten in women’s events.
Among the standout performers, Aryan Nehra from Gujarat was awarded ‘Best Swimmer’ in the men’s category, securing three gold medals and one bronze. He also set two national meet records and achieved one ‘Indian Best Performance.’
In the women’s category, Sanvi Deshwal from Maharashtra earned the ‘Best Swimmer’ award. She won three gold medals and one silver medal, along with a national meet record and an ‘Indian Best Performance.’
Sanvi emerged as the undisputed female star of the championship against India‘s top senior swimmers, claiming the title of ‘Best Female Swimmer of the Championship.’
She excelled in the 200-meter individual medley (Best Indian Performance), winning gold in the 100-meter breaststroke and 200-meter breaststroke, while also securing silver in the 400-meter individual medley.
A highlight of the championship was the women’s 200-meter individual medley race, one of the most challenging events in swimming. This race requires exceptional skills in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle, often testing an athlete’s versatility and technical mastery.
Sanvi completed the race in an impressive time of 2:19.15, setting a new national benchmark. At just 14 years old, she became one of the youngest swimmers to achieve such a significant performance at the senior national level.
