Bhagalpur, August 6: Dr. D.R. Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue with Generation Z on Wednesday. He stated that such communication is crucial for guiding youth and creating new job opportunities in the agriculture sector.
In a conversation, Dr. Singh remarked, “Engaging with children is vital. Through dialogue, we can understand their thoughts and move forward accordingly. Everyone has a significant role to play, not just educational institutions but also parents. Generation Z should also reflect on this.”
Highlighting Bihar’s youth demographic, he noted, “In Bihar, half of the population is young. The number of youths aged 18 to 21 is approximately 45 to 50 percent.”
Dr. Singh suggested that Bihar’s youth should be viewed as a valuable asset, necessitating a solid plan for their development. “It is essential to create a database on how many children in this age group are in each district, their qualifications, and the fields they wish to pursue. Based on this, we should formulate an action plan.”
He proposed that this action plan should be communicated to the youth, inviting their feedback as well. “It is crucial to engage with them and inform them about our action plan, while also seeking their suggestions. Dialogue is essential in this process.”
Discussing the potential in agriculture, the Vice-Chancellor stated, “There is significant scope for youth in agriculture in Bihar. Everyone needs food daily. We have transitioned from merely filling stomachs to focusing on nutrition. We have achieved self-sufficiency and must now work on nutritional security. Scientists are actively engaged in this area, considering the diverse climatic conditions across the country and in Bihar.”
According to him, “To empower youth with employment opportunities, both guidance and government support are necessary. It is crucial to show children a pathway to employment. The government should introduce essential plans for the youth. Today, there is a need to create business models. The government should provide tax-free loan facilities. We can progress by planning for each district.”
Dr. Singh concluded that agriculture is no longer limited to farming. There are vast opportunities for youth in food processing, agri-tech, nutrition, and climate-smart farming. With the right guidance and financial support, Bihar’s youth can elevate agriculture to new heights.
