Mumbai, June 14: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut’s recent derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi have drawn sharp criticism from MP Jyoti Waghamare. She stated that words spoken in a fit of madness should not be taken too seriously.
Waghamare emphasized that the opposition’s frustration is evident due to Modi’s rising popularity, which has led to such statements. She urged that these comments should not be given undue attention.
She pointed out that until 2022, Raut was consistently praising PM Modi, and now he resorts to using offensive language against him. Waghamare believes that the only change is in Raut’s policies and intentions, while PM Modi continues to focus on development politics.
“I think Sanjay Raut has accepted defeat. He realizes he cannot confront Eknath Shinde, which is why he has given up. According to the famous saying by Chanakya, when the entire opposition unites, it indicates that the ruler is honest. The fact that these parties are coming together shows that our leaders, whether it be PM Modi, Amit Shah, Eknath Shinde, or Devendra Fadnavis, are honest and working for the people. This fear is why they are uniting,” she remarked.
Addressing the political speculations surrounding the MPs from Uddhav Thackeray’s party joining Shinde’s faction, Waghamare clarified that the true meaning of ‘Operation Tiger’ is not about transferring individuals from one party to another. The people of Maharashtra have demonstrated in the assembly and Lok Sabha elections that the real ‘Tiger’ is Eknath Shinde. She added, “Our leader Eknath Shinde has kept the doors open not just for MPs and MLAs but also for the common people of Maharashtra, including farmers and laborers. This is very significant.”
On the recent orders to take action against gutkha smugglers under MCOCA, she noted that Tukaram Mundhe is often in the spotlight for his decisions. Many of his choices have been in the public interest, and any officer working for the public good deserves support.
Commenting on the controversy surrounding stand-up comedian Pranit More’s show, she stated that making a woman’s dignity a subject of mockery is unacceptable. She accused More of making offensive remarks against a woman and later offering an apology, which she believes should not be accepted.
“We object to presenting women’s bodies as objects. In Indian culture, women are revered as mothers and goddesses. If you equate a woman’s worth to a plate of biryani worth 370 rupees and later apologize, that apology is not acceptable. Women in India will strongly oppose such behavior. I want to ask Pranit More if he would accept an apology if someone made similar remarks about his mother or sister. As an MP, I will raise this issue in the upcoming session against such crude comedy that targets women and body shaming for cheap laughs,” she asserted.
Regarding the decision to demolish the house of former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandeep Ghosh, she stated, “A daughter who suffered exploitation until her last breath, a daughter who is no longer with us, has her mother standing strong in the fight for justice. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also supported her in this struggle, leading to justice for the victim’s mother from Bengal. I believe that if the properties of those who have shown such cruelty and barbarity are being demolished, it sends a strong message. It shows that if someone commits such atrocities, they will face the consequences.”
