New Delhi, April 22: Political tensions have escalated following Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s controversial remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Minister JP Nadda has sharply criticized the Congress party in response.
In a post on the social media platform X, Nadda stated that Kharge’s use of the term “terrorist” to describe PM Modi is a gross insult to the mandate of 1.4 billion citizens.
He accused the Congress party of being disoriented and panicked due to the impending elections in five states, fearing defeat. Nadda claimed that the party is facing public outrage for attempting to undermine women’s rights and is unable to accept PM Modi’s growing popularity.
Nadda emphasized that Kharge’s shameful and derogatory language towards the Prime Minister deserves strong condemnation. He asserted that the public will respond to Congress’s disrespectful comments.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also condemned Kharge’s remarks and filed a complaint against him. Rijiju took to X to announce that they have lodged a formal complaint regarding Kharge’s shocking and disgraceful statement calling PM Modi a “terrorist.” He described this as not only insulting but also a dangerous and unprecedented attack on democratic institutions, clearly violating the model code of conduct. Immediate action is necessary, and there will be no compromise on this matter.
Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had written to the Election Commission, lodging a complaint against Kharge for his remarks and demanding legal action.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also criticized Kharge’s comments on X, stating, “Every day, Congress is showing a new decline in its behavior and breaking its own record in lowering the level of public discourse. Today, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has violated every standard of public conduct by calling the elected Prime Minister of India a ‘terrorist,’ bringing shame to the nation. This insult to our greatest leader is an insult to the millions who love and support PM Modi.”
He further stated that labeling a leader like PM Modi, who has eradicated terrorism over the past 12 years, as a “terrorist” is utterly condemnable. Whenever Congress hurls insults at PM Modi, it is the people of India who respond. This time will be no different.
