Jiri Prochazka vs. Carlos Ulberg Set to Headline UFC 327 for Vacant Light Heavyweight Title

Mumbai, February 28: The Light Heavyweight division is entering a new era as it moves on from the “Poatan” phase.

On Friday, the UFC announced significant updates to the UFC 327 fight card through social media. Most notably, current Light Heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has officially vacated his 205-pound title in anticipation of a highly awaited move to Heavyweight. This opens the door for former champion Jiri Prochazka to challenge for the title against the rising knockout artist Carlos Ulberg, marking a pivotal moment for the division.

Prochazka fought twice in 2025, securing victories over Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree by knockout in two of the year’s standout fights. Over the past decade, the only fighter to defeat “BJP” is Pereira, making the Brazilian’s exit a significant opportunity for the fan-favorite finisher. Meanwhile, Ulberg has remained undefeated since March 2021, boasting an impressive eight-fight win streak that includes victories over notable opponents like Jan Blachowicz and Dominick Reyes. This will be Ulberg’s first title shot, and the clash between these two strikers promises to deliver an electrifying main event.

In addition to the 205-pound title bout, UFC 327 will feature two other notable matchups. At 155 pounds, veteran contender Beneil Dariush aims to bounce back from a devastating knockout loss to Benoit Saint Denis by facing rising star Manuel Torres, a formidable Lightweight prospect known for his striking power. This matchup could signify a potential shift in the rankings, as Dariush either plays the role of spoiler or risks dropping out of the Top 15 after years of being a ranked Lightweight.

Lastly, Featherweight standouts Patricio Pitbull and Aaron Pico will clash on the prelims. Pitbull, a decorated Bantamweight champion nearing the end of his career, recently showcased his skills with a win over Dan Ige, proving he still has much to offer. On the other hand, Pico is eager to secure his first UFC victory after a challenging debut against Lerone Murphy, where he fell victim to one of the year’s most brutal spinning elbows.

Overall, UFC 327 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting cards of 2026! What are your predictions for these new matchups?
