Ranchi, October 14 (Daily Kiran): The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to file a detailed response within six weeks in connection with a petition seeking a CBI probe into the alleged fake encounter of Surya Hansda, a former political candidate who had contested assembly elections on tickets from multiple parties, including the BJP.

The bench of Justice Ambuj Nath issued the directive while hearing a criminal writ petition filed by Hansda’s wife Sushila Murmu and mother Neelmuni Murmu, who claim that the encounter was staged. The court also issued a notice to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Pankaj Mishra, seeking his response in the matter.

Advocate Kumar Harsh appeared on behalf of the petitioners, arguing that the incident was not a genuine encounter and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry for an impartial probe.

The petition names several state officials, including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Director General of Police, and the Superintendents of Police of Godda and Deoghar districts, as respondents.

According to the petition, Surya Hansda was allegedly arrested from Nawadih village under Mohonpur police station (Deoghar) a day before the encounter. The next day, on August 11, he was reportedly killed in a police shootout at Dhamni Hill under Boarijore police station in Godda district.

Hansda had several criminal cases registered against him, including FIRs at Mirzachowki police station (Sahibganj) and Lalmatiya police station (Godda), for his alleged involvement in serious offences.

The High Court will take up the case for the next hearing after six weeks, once the state files its affidavit in response to the petition.
