Ranchi, March 23: The Jharkhand High Court has taken a firm stance in the case of an 18-year-old girl from Bokaro who has been missing for the past eight months. During a hearing on Monday, Justices Sujit Narayan Prasad and Deepak Roshan ordered a narco test for the main accused, Dinesh Mahto, to be conducted within two weeks.
The court emphasized that the narco test report must be presented at the next hearing. During the proceedings, the Bokaro Superintendent of Police appeared in person with the case diary and lower court records, facing severe criticism from the High Court for sluggishness and procedural lapses in the investigation.
The court expressed its displeasure over a ten-day delay in filing the First Information Report (FIR). Records indicate that the girl went missing on July 27, 2025, and an FIR was filed on August 4, 2025, despite the report being made on the same day she disappeared. The government failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for this delay.
Given the seriousness of the case, the Bokaro SP informed the court that a show-cause notice had been issued to the officer in charge of the Pindrajora police station for this negligence. Advocates Vincent Rohit Marki, Shantanu Gupta, and Ritul Nanda, representing the missing girl’s mother, raised serious concerns regarding the police’s handling of the case.
The situation became more complex when the court was informed that the girl was reportedly seen in Pune in December 2025. A suspect, Loknath Mahto, was apprehended but managed to escape by train, evading the police team.
The bench warned the police, referencing a previous case from 2020 in which a girl was murdered a year after going missing in Bokaro, stating that such insensitivity would not be tolerated. The court had previously threatened to transfer this case to the CBI if progress was not made.
