Ranchi, February 18: The Jharkhand High Court has provided significant relief to five accused in the 2015 murder case of gangster Sushil Srivastava and two others, overturning a lower court’s conviction. The court acquitted Vikas Tiwari, Santosh Pandey, Vikas Kumar Singh, Dilip Saw, and Rahul Pandey after hearing their appeals.

Previously, the Hazaribagh Civil Court had found all five guilty, sentencing them to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹50,000 each.

On June 2, 2015, a shocking shooting occurred in the Hazaribagh District Court premises when notorious gangster Sushil Srivastava was brought in for a hearing. Armed attackers used automatic weapons resembling an AK-47, resulting in the deaths of Srivastava, along with his associates Kamal Khan and Ghyas Khan.

This incident marked the first major use of an AK-47 in a courtroom in Jharkhand, raising serious concerns about the state’s law and order situation. Following the attack, 19 police officers assigned to security were suspended. A special investigation was initiated under Hazaribagh Sadar Police Station case number 610/15.

The police arrested Vikas Tiwari from Delhi on August 1, 2015, while other accused were apprehended from various locations. With the High Court’s recent decision, the case has once again gained attention. The court annulled the lower court’s ruling based on a comprehensive evaluation of the evidence and circumstances, declaring all appellants innocent.
