London, August 8: Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the remaining matches of ‘The Hundred’ due to a hamstring injury. This raises serious doubts about her participation in the upcoming Women’s T20 Asia Cup.
Playing for the Southern Brave, Jemimah scored 143 runs at an average of 35.75 in six innings during the 100-ball tournament. However, her hamstring injury forced her to withdraw midway through the competition. The franchise has replaced her with Australian all-rounder Charlie Knott for the remaining matches.
In an official statement released on Saturday, the franchise confirmed, “We acknowledge that Jemimah Rodrigues’ injury has led us to include Charlie Knott in her place for the remaining matches of ‘The Hundred.’ Jamie, we wish you a speedy recovery.”
Currently, the Southern Brave sits in second place on the Women’s Hundred points table, having won five out of six matches, accumulating 20 points. The table-toppers, the Trent Rockets, have also won five out of six matches but lead due to a superior net run rate.
The Women’s T20 Asia Cup is set to take place in Dubai from August 28 to September 13. Jemimah’s participation will depend entirely on how quickly her hamstring injury heals.
Known for her ability to score quickly in the middle overs, Jemimah has been a crucial part of the Indian batting lineup in recent years. The Indian team will kick off their campaign against Thailand on August 30, followed by matches against Hong Kong and arch-rivals Pakistan on September 3 and 5, respectively. All matches will be held at the Dubai International Stadium.
India has been the most successful nation in the tournament’s history, having won four ODI and three T20 format titles. If Jemimah is not fit in time, wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia may be called up as her replacement.
