
Mumbai, April 20: The Mumbai Indians (MI) have finally ended their losing streak in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. They achieved a remarkable victory against the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 99 runs in the 30th match of the season.
After losing their first two matches, the Gujarat Titans had bounced back with three consecutive wins, only to face defeat again. They currently sit in sixth place on the points table. Conversely, after winning their first match of IPL 2026, the Mumbai Indians suffered four straight losses before breaking that cycle with this win, moving up to seventh place in the standings.
Batting first after losing the toss, the Mumbai Indians scored 199 runs, losing 5 wickets in the process. They faced an early setback with the debutant Danish Malewar dismissed for just 2 runs, leaving the team at a mere 10 runs. MI continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, finding themselves at 44 runs with three wickets down.
However, Tilak Varma steadied the innings alongside Naman Dheer, forming a partnership of 52 runs off 40 balls. By the time MI reached 96 runs, they lost their fourth wicket with Naman Dheer scoring 45 runs off 32 balls.
From there, Tilak Varma partnered with captain Hardik Pandya to add 81 runs in just 38 balls. Pandya contributed 15 runs, while Tilak played a stunning unbeaten innings of 101 runs off 45 balls, hitting 7 sixes and 8 fours. Kagiso Rabada was the standout bowler for GT, claiming 3 wickets, while Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took one wicket each.
In response, GT collapsed for just 100 runs in 15.5 overs. They lost Sai Sudharsan (0) on the very first ball of their innings and suffered another blow when Jos Buttler (5) was dismissed in the next over.
Washington Sundar and Shubman Gill managed a brief partnership of 35 runs for the third wicket off 20 balls, but once that partnership broke, the team faltered again. Washington scored 26 runs off 17 balls, while Shahrukh Khan added 17 runs. Captain Shubman Gill could only muster 14 runs.
MI’s ‘Impact Player’ Ashwini Kumar shone with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 24 runs, while Gajanfar and Mitchell Santner each took 2 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya also contributed with one wicket each.
