Jammu and Kashmirs First National Center of Excellence Approved

Srinagar, June 25: The central government has approved the establishment of the first National Center of Excellence (NCOE) in Awantipora, Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya for this significant development.

In a post on his X account, Sinha stated, “I am thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya for approving the first National Center of Excellence (NCOE) in Awantipora, Pulwama. This center will serve as a premier facility for high-altitude sports and various athletic competitions, empowering thousands of youth with skills in different sports.”

The NCOE campus will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including an athletics track, indoor courts, football turf, hockey turf, kabaddi and kho-kho courts, a shooting range, a swimming pool, a taekwondo hall, an integrated strength and conditioning complex, a rehabilitation center, hostels, a sports science center, and a sports medicine center. This cutting-edge facility will bring world-class infrastructure and elite coaching to the union territory, nurturing the next generation of Olympic and international champions.

Jammu and Kashmir is renowned for its natural beauty, but in recent years, the region has made remarkable strides in sports. Athletes from Jammu and Kashmir have made their mark nationally in various traditional and modern sports.

In cricket, Jammu and Kashmir has made history by winning the Ranji Trophy, defeating a strong team like Karnataka for the first time. This victory highlights the growing strength of the region in cricket. Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir has excelled in hockey, wushu, football, winter games, and water sports at the national level.

The central government has played a crucial role in promoting sports in Jammu and Kashmir. The establishment of the NCOE will further strengthen athletics in this union territory.
