Jake Fraser-McGurk Shines but Falls Short of Vaibhav Sunils Record in Adelaide

Jake Fraser-McGurk sets a new record for the fastest fifty in South Australia but misses Vaibhav Sunils record.

Adelaide, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : Jake Fraser-McGurk, the explosive opener for Australia, made headlines on Saturday at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide. He scored the fastest fifty in the One Day Cup for South Australia against Queensland, but fell short of breaking Vaibhav Sunil’s record.

Fraser-McGurk’s innings of 122 runs came off just 63 balls, featuring ten fours and nine sixes. He partnered with captain Nathan McSweeney, who contributed 106 runs off 103 balls, helping South Australia reach a formidable total of 397 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

During his innings, Fraser-McGurk completed his fifty in just 14 balls. However, he could not surpass Sunil’s record for the fastest fifty in List A cricket, which stands at an astonishing 11 balls. Nevertheless, Fraser-McGurk’s fifty ranks as the fourth fastest in List A history.

From the outset, Fraser-McGurk displayed an aggressive approach. He scored 22 runs in Tom Straker’s second over and hit two sixes and a four off Tom Whitney in the fourth over. He reached his half-century with a boundary off Hayden Kerr in the sixth over and completed his century in just 49 balls.

Fraser-McGurk holds the record for the fastest century in List A cricket, achieved in just 29 balls. His performance at Karen Rolton Oval has been impressive, with two centuries and one fifty in six List A innings played at the venue.

Currently, Fraser-McGurk is not part of the Australian team. The 24-year-old right-handed batsman made his One Day International and T20 debuts but last played an ODI against Sri Lanka on February 14, 2025, and his last T20 match was against the West Indies on July 20, 2025. In his ODI career, he has scored 98 runs in seven matches, while in T20s, he has amassed 115 runs in eight games, including one fifty.
