Jaishankar Meets Finnish President Alexander Stub, Discusses Bilateral Relations

New Delhi, March 5: India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Finnish President Alexander Stub on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations ahead of Stub’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following their discussion, President Stub also met with Prime Minister Modi.

Minister Jaishankar expressed optimism that the upcoming meeting between President Stub and Prime Minister Modi would strengthen ties between the two nations.

In a post on the social media platform X, Jaishankar stated, “I was pleased to meet President Alexander Stub in Delhi on Thursday morning. I believe that his meeting with PM Modi will further enhance India-Finland relations.”

He also mentioned looking forward to Stub’s speech at the Raisina Dialogue. President Stub arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi and will remain in India until March 7. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes ministers, senior officials, and prominent business leaders.

During his visit, Stub will participate in the 11th edition of the Raisina Dialogue, taking place from March 5 to 7, where he will serve as the chief guest and address the event.

This marks President Stub’s first visit to India since taking office. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Modi and President Stub are expected to engage in extensive discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation across various sectors.

The two leaders are also anticipated to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual concern, including collaboration in multilateral forums. Prime Minister Modi will host a lunch in honor of President Stub.

President Stub is scheduled to meet with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan. After his engagements in New Delhi, he will travel to Mumbai, where he will meet with Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

In Mumbai, he will engage with Indian business leaders and participate in an India-Finland business event. He is also set to address students at Mumbai University.

Jaishankar emphasized that India and Finland share strong, friendly relations based on common democratic values. Finland is regarded as a significant partner for India within the European Union and the Nordic region.
