Tel Aviv, March 6: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shared crucial information on Friday regarding the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The IDF reported that approximately 50 fighter jets from the Air Force participated in the attack on the Iranian government leadership compound in Tehran on February 28.
In a statement released by the IDF, it was noted, “Around 50 fighter jets, guided by the Intelligence Directorate and assisted by the Counter-Terrorism Directorate, targeted Khamenei’s underground bunker located beneath the Iranian leadership compound in central Tehran.”
The statement further elaborated, “This underground bunker was constructed beneath the leadership compound and served as a secure emergency center for the leader’s military operations. Even after Khamenei’s assassination, senior officials of the Iranian regime continued to use this facility. It was destroyed under ‘Operation Roar of the Harrier’.”
The IDF indicated that the Iranian regime had invested significant efforts over the years to construct this underground complex, aiming to create a secure location for advancing its military plans.
The statement highlighted that this underground bunker spanned several streets in central Tehran and included multiple entrances and rooms for meetings among senior officials.
“Following extensive intelligence gathering and investigation conducted by the Military Intelligence Service, the compound was attacked,” the IDF stated.
According to the IDF, “This leadership compound was the most significant and central headquarters of the Iranian regime. The destruction of this underground bunker further impaired the command and control capabilities of the Iranian regime.”
Earlier this week, the IDF announced that it had attacked and destroyed the Iranian regime’s leadership compound and its central headquarters.
On March 3, the IDF posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “This command headquarters was one of the most heavily fortified properties in Iran. The regime’s most senior leadership was present in this compound. We executed a night attack based on precise intelligence. Both the leader of this terrorist regime and the headquarters have been eliminated.”
