New Delhi, February 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to Israel. In an exclusive interview with a news agency, Israel’s Consul General Yaniv Revach discussed the significance of PM Modi’s trip.

Revach stated that Israel plans to enhance its bilateral defense agreement with India. This initiative aims to share advanced technology and facilitate the manufacturing of military hardware in India. Additionally, there will be increased collaboration on the latest Iron Dome and other defense systems.

Regarding the relationship between the two nations, Revach expressed pride in the strong connection not only between the countries but also between their leaders. “We have seen that they communicate frequently and share a vision, especially as we face similar challenges. Today, India is a major partner for Israel, and both leaders are close friends with a shared vision, which is crucial,” he remarked.

On PM Modi’s upcoming visit, Revach said, “We are very excited that Prime Minister Modi is visiting Israel this week. It is essential to understand the unique relationship between Israel and India. We view India as a global superpower today. There is also a cabinet proposal regarding this visit, focusing on political, economic, and defense aspects.”

He emphasized the importance of this visit, stating, “When you see both leaders together promoting this agenda, especially strengthening ties between our countries, it will extend to the private sector, encouraging companies to foster collaboration. Both nations are also combating terrorism, so this sends a strong message. Prime Minister Netanyahu has specifically mentioned that defense cooperation is a key aspect of this visit, and we aim to enhance and upgrade our defense collaboration with India.”

Revach acknowledged the sensitivity of the region, explaining, “This is why we are working to create a distinct axis with India, the Abraham Accords countries, some African nations, and Middle Eastern countries, including Cyprus and Greece, to address radical influences. It is crucial for Prime Minister Modi to promote this initiative during his visit to Israel.”

Discussing defense deals, he noted, “The ongoing defense cooperation between our countries is unique and strong, vital for both as we face mutual challenges. During PM Modi’s visit, we plan to enhance this agreement, focusing on key issues like manufacturing in India and collaboration on the Iron Dome and other defense systems to share technology with our partners in India.”

On the primary focus of the defense agreement, he stated, “Defense is a crucial issue. I don’t want to imply that defense is the only important topic of discussion during this visit. We need to recognize that our values align, and unfortunately, we face similar challenges. As PM Netanyahu mentioned this week, we have challenges against radical axes, including Shia and Sunni organizations. While focusing on defense is essential, we must also prioritize economic and political cooperation. We understand India’s needs for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.”
