Ireland Stuns West Indies with a 6-Wicket Victory in Womens T20 World Cup

Bristol, June 28: In a remarkable turn of events, Ireland secured a stunning victory against the West Indies in their final match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The match took place on Saturday at the County Ground, where Ireland triumphed by six wickets.

England has already clinched a semifinal spot from Group B, while Sri Lanka, Scotland, and Ireland have been eliminated from the title race. The West Indies, with a record of three wins out of five matches, currently sit in second place, while New Zealand follows in fourth with two wins from four matches.

Batting first after losing the toss, the West Indies managed to score only 128 runs, losing seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. They faced early setbacks, losing two wickets for just 27 runs. Stephanie Taylor stepped up, forming partnerships of 23 runs with captain Hayley Matthews and 22 runs with Deandra Dottin.

Matthews scored 22 runs before being dismissed, and Dottin contributed 21 runs. Taylor was out for 16 runs off 26 balls. Chinelle Henry played a crucial role, remaining unbeaten with 27 runs off 21 balls, including three boundaries. For Ireland, Amy Maguire and Cara Murray each took two wickets, while Orla Prendergast, Arlene Kelly, and Jane Maguire claimed one wicket each.

In response, Ireland chased down the target in just 18.1 overs. Amy Hunter partnered with captain Gaby Lewis to add 26 runs for the first wicket. Lewis was dismissed for just 9 runs, but Hunter then built a solid partnership with Orla Prendergast, adding 62 runs for the second wicket to bring the score to 88.

Hunter scored 28 runs off 32 balls, hitting one six and one four before returning to the pavilion. Rebecca Stokell, with an unbeaten 16, played a key role in securing the win with 11 balls to spare. Prendergast shone with the bat, scoring 63 runs off 44 balls, including two sixes and eight fours. Ashwini Munisar was the standout bowler for the West Indies, taking two wickets, while Hayley Matthews and Effie Fletcher each took one.
