Iranian Foreign Minister Meets Omans Sultan, Set to Discuss with Putin

New Delhi, April 27: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi arrived in Oman following his visit to Pakistan. He met with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said and Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi. Araqchi is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin next. Discussions with Oman’s leadership included the ongoing Hormuz crisis.

Russian state media reported that President Putin plans to meet with Araqchi on Monday. With Western sanctions heavily impacting both Russia and Tehran, the two nations have strengthened their ties in recent years.

The Kremlin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed Araqchi’s visit for talks, as stated by the Russian Foreign Ministry. They noted, “We confirm Araqchi’s visit to Russia for discussions,” but provided no further details.

Araqchi shared a photo from his meeting with Oman’s Sultan on social media platform X, expressing gratitude for the hospitality. He emphasized the importance of discussions on the affairs of both nations and regional development. As coastal nations of the Strait of Hormuz, they focused on ensuring safe transit for the benefit of all neighboring countries and the world.

Additionally, Oman’s Foreign Minister highlighted a productive discussion with Araqchi regarding the Strait of Hormuz. He acknowledged their shared responsibility towards the international community and the urgent humanitarian need to release long-held sailors. Ensuring permanent freedom of navigation requires extensive diplomacy and practical solutions.

Tensions between the U.S. and Iran remain high. While efforts for a ceasefire are underway, Iran has outright rejected any direct negotiations with the U.S., leading to mediation talks involving Pakistan.

Araqchi’s trip includes visits to three countries, with Russia being the final stop after Oman. He aims to address the repercussions Tehran has faced due to actions taken by the U.S. and Israel since the attack on February 28.
