Tehran, May 5: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has issued a stern warning to the United States and the United Arab Emirates regarding military actions in the region. His remarks came in response to President Donald Trump’s recent launch of “Project Freedom,” aimed at facilitating the transit of ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi criticized this initiative, labeling it as “Project Deadlock.”
He emphasized on social media platform X that the recent incidents in Hormuz demonstrate that military solutions do not resolve political crises. He noted that diplomatic efforts, particularly those by Pakistan, are making progress. Therefore, he cautioned the US to be wary of being dragged back into conflict by its adversaries, a sentiment he extended to the UAE as well.
In a separate statement, President Trump refrained from confirming whether the ceasefire between the US and Iran would continue. During an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, when asked if hostilities might resume, Trump replied, “I can’t tell you that.”
In an interview with Fox News, Trump warned the Iranian military that any attempt to target American vessels in the Strait or the Persian Gulf would result in severe consequences. He later asserted that military conflict with Iran is effectively over.
Meanwhile, Danish shipping and logistics company Maersk confirmed that one of its vessels, under US military protection, successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, with all crew members safe. The vessel, named Alliance Fairfax, had been stranded in the Persian Gulf since February when hostilities began.
Maersk stated that recent communication from the US military allowed the ship to exit the Gulf safely. The company expressed gratitude for the professionalism and effective cooperation of the US military in facilitating this operation and looks forward to returning to normal commercial services.
