Tehran, May 31: Amid discussions of a potential agreement with the United States, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy showcased a new high-speed attack ship. Various news agencies reported on this development.
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, the Iranian military introduced its latest high-speed assault vessel, named ’27 Rajab’, during a ceremony at Enqelab Square.
This attack ship is claimed to reach speeds of 100 knots, approximately 185 kilometers per hour, and is capable of launching long-range cruise missiles.
As reported by Tasnim News Agency, this display was part of a gathering that has been ongoing for 90 consecutive days, attracting a large audience. The Iranian public closely observed the growing capabilities of their military.
The vessel is designed specifically for coastal and maritime security operations. Its standout feature is the ‘trimaran hull design’, which consists of a main structure and two auxiliary structures. This design enhances the ship’s stability at sea and allows for easy maneuverability, even in challenging conditions.
The speedboat can launch two sea-based cruise missiles with a range of 700 kilometers. Additionally, it can operate in sea conditions where wave heights reach up to three meters, making it suitable for fast and unpredictable maritime operations. This capability is particularly valuable in ever-changing environments, although the technical details were provided by military sources.
Tasnim News Agency cited military officials stating that this unveiling reflects the IRGC Navy’s ongoing efforts to enhance its fast-attack and missile-equipped maritime capabilities.
Recently, former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed via Truth Social that Iran’s navy has been rendered ineffective by the U.S. In this context, Iran aims to showcase its maritime strength as more modern and effective through the unveiling of this new vessel.
