Iran Returns Chinese Ship from Hormuz Strait Amidst Tensions

New Delhi, April 19: Iran has returned a Chinese vessel from the Strait of Hormuz due to a lack of permission. The ship had to change its course after not receiving the necessary approval. This information was provided by the Iranian Consulate in Mumbai through an official statement.

It was reported that Iran does not allow any vessel to pass through this maritime route without prior authorization. The Chinese ship, named ‘Sun Profit,’ was forced to alter its route after failing to secure permission. Iran clarified that it does not grant “blanket approval” for ships; each vessel must obtain separate authorization.

On the same day, there were reports of gunfire directed at two Indian vessels. In response, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement. It mentioned that the Iranian ambassador was summoned by the Foreign Secretary to discuss the matter and express India’s concerns.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal referenced a conversation between India and the Iranian ambassador on social media. The statement noted, “On Saturday evening, the Iranian ambassador was called to the Ministry of External Affairs for a meeting with the Foreign Secretary. During this meeting, the Foreign Secretary conveyed India’s deep concerns regarding the gunfire incident in the Strait of Hormuz, which involved two vessels flying the Indian flag.”

“Reiterating concerns over this serious incident involving commercial vessels, the Foreign Secretary urged the ambassador to communicate India’s views to Iranian officials and to expedite the process for allowing ships coming from India through the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian ambassador assured that he would relay these concerns to the Iranian authorities.”
